In my experience, the bridal waltz falls into one of two categories – the “swayers” and the “dancers” – sure, both can be great: the swayers, lost in their love for each other, the enormity of the day, the release of emotion can be super romantic to witness. The dancers on the other hand are out there revelling in their moment, their day – confident, smooth, fun and exciting to watch.
What if you were a “swayer” and wanted to jump ship to the dancers? Or worse, your partner is already in the dancer category and you’d love to join their ranks on your wedding night? There’s an answer…

Ann Marie from Your First Dance Co. will get you sorted when it comes to your bridal dance – you can hear all her advice in the audio clip below.
Before I hand over to Anne Marie from Your First Dance Co. to explain what’s involved and the steps (haha, get it) to take your dancing to the next level, I want to introduce Greggy and Tahnee who are getting married next month and are in the process of taking dance lessons for their first dance. Now Greggy suffers from a lot of things but a lack of confidence isn’t one of them! I hope you enjoy his recount about their first dance lessons and follow his posts as he progresses to the wedding night.

Follow Greg and Tahnee on their progress from first dance lesson to wedding day bridal waltz with guest blog posts from uber confident Greggy.
The idea for this post came about after photographing weddings over the years and finding that the first dance can often be a source of drama for couples. One wants to dance, neither wants to, they both want to but don’t know where to start. With that in mind, I sought out one of the best dance instructors on the Central Coast – Ann Marie Dox. I chatted to Ann Marie about everything you might want to know about dance lessons but were afraid to ask.
no man enjoys dancing of any kind unless they are certain they’ve reached their “drunk enough to hit the dance floor” point
We cover pricing, lesson numbers, timing, having two left feet, fast and slow dances, the best shoes to wear and more! You can hear the interview below and if you’d rather read the transcript of the interview, you can do that by clicking here.
What did you think? I was a little surprised at how easy it all is and wish Linda and I had done something like this for our wedding dance. If anyone needs help progressing from swayer to dancer – it’s me!
The Guys Perspective
Everyone knows it’s the girls that organise 99% of the wedding day, dance lessons are included. To get a feel for what these lessons are like, Greggy, a mate of mine, offered to report back on the experience. I’ll add his updates to the blog and offer a report myself after photographing their upcoming wedding and being on hand to witness his amazing display of cutting edge dance moves.
Unfortunately, Greggy and Tahnee weren’t able to get to the Your First Dance Studio but found a great studio closer to them.
Take it away Greggy…
I knew it was not going to be an easy commitment to make but when you are staring into the eyes of the beautiful woman who you are about to marry and she hints at learning a First Dance routine adding “but you would never do that! You’re such a stupid guys guy!”…
I thought what better way to surprise her than with a six week Bridal Waltz Package courtesy of Rina Masia at Keep on Rockin Dance Studio.
Lets face it people… no man enjoys dancing of any kind unless they are certain they’ve reached their “drunk enough to hit the dance floor” point.
Having to learn my Bridal Waltz routine with 6 weeks to my wedding initially had me scared I must say, those good old days when I used to dominate the floor at the Central Coast Leagues “Kittens Disco” came flooding back.
Twenty minutes into the lesson and we had established that I would just be standing there complimenting my beauty while she tears up the stage like “Baby”… From that movie where nobody is allowed to put her where perpedicular walls meet.
Feeling much like “Baby” would have, I threw my hat into the ring and suggested two things….
1. Moon
2. Walk
My dance team, choreographers, and support crew have given me a week to reconsider… I’ll let you know how I go…
Note: This recount may be subject to exaggeration 🙂
Lesson 2 to follow

I wish i could find somebody as hot as Greggy…
