I was recently been inspired to get the old Holga camera out and give some 120 film a spin. It’s so exciting having to wait and see your results, making the trip to the lab, the anticipation!. I really miss the whole experience of film somedays and when I feel this way, I go and grab the Holga for some photography fun!
The Holga camera is an inexpensive way to have fun shooting 120, medium format film. The Holga is basically a toy plastic camera made in China, but the meniscus lens and limitations of the camera, (point, click and don’t forget to take the lens cap off!), offer some cool results. All the things we do in photoshop to make a photo look ‘vintage’ and ‘rustic’ come for free with the Holga – vignetting, blur, light leaks and other distortions are all apparent in these images I took on a recent trip to Queenstown, New Zealand.
The last photo was from the back door of our hotel room the morning we discovered it had snowed through the night!
