Friday was another fun shoot for me – in my search to build up a portfolio of sample images to start offering shoots to aspiring and established models on the Coast I organised a shoot with Erin from Sydney.
The other idea behind these shoots is to “practice” my skills and try some new things I’ve picked up at recent seminars and reading some articles on lighting. Once I am confident and can use the new techniques without thinking I start to introduce them into my wedding and portrait shoots – have to practice somewhere and my family are tired of modeling for me.
From the minute we started chatting it was obvious that Erin was different to anyone I had photographed before and she had a few ideas for a makeup that I hadn’t really considered before. So, it was off too Lee Hanly to discuss makeup and hair and she was as excited as me to be doing something a little different.
Typically – the rain wouldn’t let up so it was into the studio for the first part of the shoot. Once there was a break in the rain, we made a run for the outdoor location only to have it bucket down as we started driving.
Ok, thinking, thinking, thinking…. and I had an idea to get some shot’s in a local car parking station. It was close, there was cover, there was an outdoor option if the rain cleared and the look and feel would work well with the look that Lee and Erin had come up with.
After a few indoor shots it was onto the roof (the rain eased and we had an umbrella) and this is where things really came together and I knew I was getting some good stuff. It’s a feeling pretty hard to explain but when it’s happening, you just know, this is good.
Anyway, below is one of my favorites with more to follow next week.
I promise to get some wedding images up shortly as well – I’ve had some great weddings over the last month, stay tuned.
