Yesterday’s shoot involved getting dirty out on a couple of building sites and working with a bunch of construction workers for a new web site being developed for my client. The brief was to capture the faces and type of work done by Whitten Brothers Concrete Constructions. The twist in the shoot was that most images would either be cropped as a panorama or etched and dropped into other backgrounds by the designers.
The shoot itself wasn’t too complicated but the cloudy day meant that exposures were constantly changing and this made it especially tough working with off camera flash – which I did for some images to make the most of the patches of blue sky where possible. Everyone wants blue sky when they can get it.
The only other obstacle was the “talent” which were construction guys and a lone office lady (dressed as a tradey) that just wanted to be working and not posing for photos. It didn’t help when guys from other trades were wolf whistling and yelling out words of encouragement while I was photographing. One guy nearly dropped dead when I joked that he had to get his shirt off for a couple of images and get some baby oil rubbed in – priceless!
Funny thing was – as soon as I was finished shooting most of the guys I would hear, “Uh, so when will we get to see the images?”
Below are a few images from the shoot.
